Carys Lewis is a Cardiff and Toronto based writer and director. Her most recent short film Afiach (Sick) premiered at the Iris Prize Festival to and was screened on S4C. Carys’ latest documentary short film, Ernest, premiered at the Wales International Documentary Festival and is now making the festival circuit. Carys is also in pre-production on a short film that has been optioned and funded by Erika Lust Films. She is in post-production on Stuffed, a BFI NET.WORK funded short film, which she wrote and directed.  Carys is the new Filmmaker in Residence at the Welsh National Opera.

As a writer, she is developing a feature screenplay with support of the Ffilm Cymru Wales and is co-writing a feature film with playwright Trey Anthony called How Black Mothers Say I Love You, optioned by Conquering Lion Productions and will be directed by acclaimed director, Clement Virgo (The Wire, L World, Book of Negros).

As an advocate for equal representation of women in front of and behind the camera, Carys is the founder of two organizations: FEM Script Lab, a writing lab for female screenwriters in Toronto, and SHIFFT – Female Filmmakers, an organization which supports women working across all disciplines of film and T.V. in Wales.

Carys has worked in theatre and film since graduating from George Brown Theatre School. Recent theatre/film acting credits include: Yeats in Love (Big Ideas Festival), Sex and This (Aim For Tangent), Now What? (Humber Film), When The Ice Breaks (Down n’ Out Productions), The Corpse Bride (TheatrePANIK), The Trojan Women (Alumnae Theatre), She Stoops To Conquer (George Brown Theatre), Brand (George Brown Theatre), Orestes 2.0 (George Brown Theatre).
